Edmonton’s Sourdough River Festival
Celebrates 50 years as an Edmonton summer event
Edmonton – The Sourdough River Festival will take place on Saturday, July 11 and
Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Terwillegar Park, Edmonton. The Sourdough Raft Race
Association is producing this fun-filled two day festival featuring a Sourdough Kids Zone Mini
Carnival where children can build and race their own mini raft; fun and prizes and a pancake
breakfast for everyone. Watch the final moments of the spectacular official raft race and the
awarding of the Admiral’s Choice Trophy and a $1000 gift prize.
Saturday Terwillegar Park
Noon-6:00 pm Sourdough Kids Zone Mini Carnival: family activities including face painting, games, 2nd Annual Children’s Mini Raft construction; hot dog and hamburger barbeque; proceeds going to the Youth Emergency Shelter Society (YESS)
3:00 p.m. Children’s Mini Raft Race Launch
3:45 p.m. Mini Raft Race Awards and Prize Presentations
Sunday: Terwillegar Park
8:00–10:00 a.m. Pancake Breakfast; proceeds to Edmonton Alpine Sports Authority
9:00 a.m. Admiral Jack Rutherford and entourage arrives
9:00–11:00 a.m. Sourdough Kids Zone Mini Carnival: family Activities including face painting, fun and games with all proceeds going to YESS
9:45 am Demonstration by Outrigger Club
11:00 a.m. Captain’s Meeting and Raft Inspection
Noon Official Raft Race Launch
12:15 p.m. Open Launch for Family Fun Event (other water crafts)
1:00 p.m. Gates at Terwillegar Park close
Afternoon Rafters Landing
2:30-3:00 p.m. Rafts complete their voyage
4:00 PM Awards and Presentation on the Edmonton Queen
Also on location will be displays by the HMCS Nonsuch; Oilcity Derby Girls; Fire Rescue Crew & Rig as well as other special guests.
Best spectator locations are: High Level Bridge Waterfall – the “Great Divide” between noon to 4:00 p.m. and Laurier Park, Emily Murphy Park, Kinsmen Sport Centre, Louise McKinney Park and Rafters Landing. Plenty of parking is available at these locations so bring the whole family down to enjoy this summer event.
